Major Neil Alexander Selkirk of the Royal Sussex Regiment was born in Blantyre,
Nyasaland. He attended Dollar Academy where he captained the rugby, tennis and
cricket teams and won the Edina Championship Challenge Cup for athletics. He
studied at the University, captaining the rugby team and gaining a "triple blue"
in rugby, tennis and athletics, and graduating BSc in 1934.
Selkirk worked at the School of Agriculture at Plumpton in Sussex before joining
the army. He was killed on active service in Burma on 23 April 1944.
