Manmohan Singh is a famous political leader and economist of India (Currently Prime Minister of India). He received degrees in M.A. and D. Phil from the Oxford University. In 1963, he became a Professor of Economics in the Punjab University Then he was appointed the Professor of International Trade at Delhi School of Economics.
He served as a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minster in 1983-84. In 1985, he became the Governor of Reserve Bank of India. From 1985 to 1987, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission. Later he was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance.
He became the Union Finance Minister on June 21, 1991. He introduced the policy of economic liberalization and encouraged investment by foreign companies in the Indian economy. It was a major policy change which propelled economic growth. Later, he became the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
