Swami Nand Lal Ji was born in 1902 at Gurgari Mohalla, Zaina Kadal, Srinagar. He belonged to an affluent family. His family members were staunch devotees of Goddess Jagadamba Shakira Devi. His mother died when he was very young. Then he was brought up by his stepmother who later proved to be a blessing in disguise. She became his first guru.
Swami Ji was very energetic when he was in his prime age. He commanded a lot of respect from his companions. He left his parental house when he was merely 17 or 18 years old. He learnt various yogas and Sadhana from his guru H.H. Swami Lal Ji of Banaras. Swami Nand Lalji was very fond of nature and sufiana music. His ashram was always open and offered free food to the visitors. He never accepted a penny from anybody. He never used his magical powers to impress others. There are numerous stories about the miracle which he performed throughout his life. He breather his last in January 1966 on the day of Gauri Triteya in New Delhi.
