CHINMOY KUMAR

Saint Chinmoy Kumar Ghose was born in the small village of Shakpura in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) in 1931. He lost both his father and mother at a very young age. Thereafter, he joined in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community near Pondicherry in South India, at the age of 12. For almost 20 years, he devoted himself to meditation, practising athletics, writing poetry, essays and spiritual songs. During these years he achieved very advance states of meditation.

In 1964, he reached New York to share his inner wealth with sincere seekers in the west. He says ‘God himself is inside each of us and God at every moment is transcending his own reality’. Through his writings and lectures, Sri Chinmoy shares simple, clear language insights on the nature of the spiritual life and the aspirant’s relationship with God. Poetry has been his first choice, as a natural medium for expressing mystical experiences. Today, Sri Chinmoy serves as a spiritual guide to students in some 60 countries and has lectured in hundreds of universities.
