John Lithgow (born October 19 1945 in Rochester, New York) is an actor best known for starring in the NBC sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun, about aliens who assume human form and examine humans in small-town Ohio.


He received a Tony award for his performance as J.J. Hunsecker in the musical Sweet Smell of Success, based on the film. He is currently starring on Broadway with Eileen Atkins in the new play, Retreat from Moscow .
