JOHN L. ADAMS
ADAMS, John, sailor, born in Boston, Massachusetts, 29 November 1796; died in Allston, Massachusetts, 17 March 1886. He was the last survivor of all who witnessed the victory gained by Hull in the “Constitution ” over Dacres in the “Guerriere,” 19 August 1812. He was subsequently captured and confined in Dart-moor prison till the end of the war. For nearly half a century afterward he followed the sea, commanding some of the finest merchantmen that sailed from Boston.
