BUSH

British rock band that burst onto the American grunge music scene in 1994 and whose hit singles include “Everything Zen,” “Glycerine” (both 1994) and “ Swallowed” (1996). Singer Gavin Rossdale, guitarist Nigel Pulsford, bassist Dave Parsons, and drummer Robin Goodridge formed the group in 1992, while living and working as house painters in the Shepherd's Bush section of London. Criticism of the band's derivative sound did not prevent their debut album, Sixteen Stone from going platinum. Their second album, Razorblade Suitcase (1996) took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart its first week out. They released The Science of Things in 1999 to mixed reviews. Success made frontman Rossdale into an international sex symbol.
