A voice full of vivacity and spontaneity made Geeta Dutt an evergreen singer of her times. Her unique ethereal voice quality breathed life into any she sang. Geeta Dutt was born in Faridpur district inEast Bengal in 1930.
Her parents shifted to Mumbai when she was just twelve years old. Her first singing assignment was for thefilm ‘Bhakt Prahlad, (1946). Her major assignment came with the film ‘Do Bhai’ (1947). The song ‘Mera Sunder Sapana Beet Gaya’ from the same film, established Geeta Dutt as a singer of class.
The early fifties were the best years in Geeta Dutt life. In 1935, she married Guru Dutt. Her lifting songs too major hits making her the queen of the ‘ light brigade’. Unfortunately, in the later half of the fifties, professional as well as personal frustrational, steered Geeta towards alcoholism. Geeta gradually lost interest in professional singing despite some beautiful songs in ‘Anubhav’. Geeta Dutt died in 1972.
