Bhupen Hazarika is a renowned singer of India. He was born in 1926 at Sadia in Assam. After compeling post graduation from the Benaras University he got Ph. D from Columbia University, New York.

       

Bhupen Hazarika was inclined to become a singer from a young age. He also received the Lisle Fellowship from Chicago University, USA, to study as a child actor in second talkie film to be made in the pioneering years of 1939 in the film ‘Indramalati’.

       

Bhupen Hazarika, a prodigious genious, wrote his first song at the age of 10. He won the prestigious Prisident’s National Award for the best film- maker thrice for ‘Shankuntala’, ‘Pratidhwani’ and Loti Ghoti’ in 1960, 1964and 1967, respectively. He also won the National Award as the best music composer in India in 1977 for the Assamese film ‘Chameli Memsaab’. He is honoured with the Padma Shree and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his outstanding contribution to the field of music and cinema in India.
