Bappi Lahiri or Alokesh Lahiri is a famous music derector of India. He was born in Kolkata. His father Aparesh Lahiri was a famous singer. His mother Bansari Lahiri was also a famous classical singer. He is very fond of jewellery and is usually found wearing gold ornaments and black glasses.

       

Bappi had a deep interest in music right from his classical singer. As a four-year-old, he used to give company to his father on stage shows by playing the table. His first job as a music director was in the Bengali film, Dadu, when he was only 16. He came to Mumbai at the age of 18.

       

The first Hindi film for which he composed music was ‘Nanha’ Shikari’. However, what Lahiri holds the highest credit for, is the introduction of Disco to Hindi film music. The first time he used Disco was in ‘Suraksha’. He was especially very popular in the 1980s with films like Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal and Sharaabi among others.

       

He occasionally presented himself as a singer. Bappi Lahiri is often accused of playgiarism by his detractors. At one time, he scored music for 30 films a year, which is mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records.
